WRITING THE SHORT FILM:
The Telling Moment
Practice the Art of Short Form Storytelling
The short film is often viewed as a stepping-stone for budding filmmakers looking to gain experience and practice their craft, but closer consideration reveals that writing the short film is an art form of its' own.
What makes a good short film? How does a writer create a credible story world in the short form? How does one quickly establish character? What about structure? Can I tell an engaging story that offers the audience a sense of resolution in just a few minutes?
In this workshop, we will search for answers to these questions and more. You will apply the fundamental elements of storytelling (i.e. plot, theme, character, dialogue, dramatic structure and visual storytelling) in your own work, which will then be workshopped.
Participants will also learn methods for drafting documents used by professional screenwriters (i.e. synopsis, log line, treatment, step outline and script).
The city of Paris serves as the backdrop to our session: a cinema outing and a museum-based exercise will get the creative energy flowing as you join a long tradition of writers and filmmakers seeking inspiration in the city of light.
